Heidi spoke to us after our first group dinner at Creative Escape. Her message was about RISK and REWARD. The risk of not recording our daily lives is the risk of forgetting the unforgettable.
The reward - of being able to look back and remember, to look back and laugh. The reward of binding generations. The reward of focusing on the best of times, when our memories tend to focus on the more traumatic events. The reward of precious moments captured. Being able to acknowledge the little things, that really are the big things. The reward of seeing the ordinary become the extraordinary.
All the while a slide show was playing photos of her family over the years, highlighting things that might easily have been forgotten without the effort to capture those memories. We were all stunned at the rightness of her message, and there were many moist eyes in the room. She really is brilliant and I never will forget her message.
This is the project we made in her class the next morning. Her message here, that each moment is once in a lifetime. To be able to look at life that way (or to remember this message) is incredible.
This is an expanding book type of thing, all on a frame (which we pounded the pieces together and created ourselves by the way).

I almost didn't go to Creative Escape. When I heard the price I actually laughed out loud. Now I can tell you that this was totally worth it - and I got so much more out of this than I bargained for.
